The lyrics are deep and really apply to life, I've listened to this album over and over.
She alone has the power to promote this album to its ethereal quality, although she is also backed by a group of wonderful bandmates. The guitars, if you ever know how difficult is it to play guitars, are very catchy and incredibly well done. I think the genre they fit BEST into would be rock. They also have elements of nu-metal because of the guitars and how hard some of the songs really are. I feel like the 1-star reviews are either from die-hard metal fans who don't like Evanescence because they're not "metal" enough or from people who didn't even like them before they had a chance to listen. Then they have parts of metal because one song has a 10-second screamo part (but it's not the in-your-face screamo - it's more like a screamed phrase that becomes part of the musical background). However, if you are worried about buying a CD that you don't like, just go to evanescence.com and they have samples of a few songs - if you like what you hear, that's great.
If you don't - well, can't fault anyone for their opinion.In general, I personally love this album. And I like about 12 of them - this just goes to show that if you stop wasting your time doing comparisons and just listen to the music, you will discover that more than one female-fronted band can be classified as "good."I have a very difficult time putting Fallen into a genre - it has elements of several. I don't think you will be disappointed. But a band like this shouldn't be compared to Lacuna Coil, Nightwish or the Gathering. ONE song has about 30 seconds of rap from a very talented rapper - that doesn't make Fallen a pop album. Amy Lee has one of the best female voices we have seen in over a decade. The other instruments accompany both her voice and the guitars to create a well-rounded, three dimensional sound.I don't like it when people compare bands because they both have a female singer - the MUSIC is different.
However, several of the songs are like pop songs because they are "catchy." While using drums and heavy guitars, they still create music that gets stuck in your head, much like pop songs. You can like Linkin Park, System of a Down, Nine Inch Nails, Ozzy, Avril Lavigne, Fall Out Boy.it doesn't matter what you like, you should give this album a chance. They are all good and, if you just like the music, that doesn't mean one album has to be better and the rest suck.As my final words, I highly recommend this album. Many people hate Evanescence because they are "too gawthic" or "too commercial." However, I feel that they are being very superficial with the album. I can think of 15 bands off the top of my head, both mainstream and underground, that have female singers. Because it fits into so many different genres, it appeals to a very wide audience.
The fact that this is the go to in any situation that anyone I say "rock" to, is a disgrace. This is one of those albums that was fine after a few doses but then gets beaten into submission by radio and girls who have to play this every month ( If you know what I mean ). This album is a great one night stand but nothing more.
I only heard one of the songs by this band, so I bought the cd I love every song on it I've had it for a few weeks and I just can't seem to become tired of it. It is excellent thinking music.
I lost my original , and I'm really happy to own it again. Amy Lee always is great to listen to, but she did an amazing job on this older cd. Fantastic CD. The lyrics and music set Evanescence apart from other artists.
